Netflix Top 10 Watched Shows

The top 10 playlist of Netflix currently goes across various genres. There are selections on the roster with mass appeal and some others appeal in their polarization. As our society whirls in its own history, Netflix and this upper tier are a mirror of our culture in its present state.

  1. SQUID GAME

Breaking records across the board the number one show for Netflix four weeks in a row is Squid Game. It had the largest launch, currently boast 111 million viewers and the mega-violent survival game phenomenon from South Korea shows no signs of slowing down. Based on childhood games like Red Light Green Light and Tug of War, 456 adults were abducted and forced to vie for a $38.5 million grand prize. The viewing audience follows the lives of 7 of the contestants as the challenges carry the ultimate risk. The losers don’t get kicked out of or off anything – they’re executed.

  1. MAID

On the warm and cozy front is Maid. It’s the story of single mother living life in an abusive home. So, to escape her dilemma and provide a better life for her daughter, she takes a job as a maid and housekeeper. Based on Stephanie Land’s New York Times best-selling memoir, the reviews for this mini-series have been tremendous with the focus of positive reviews being on the parent/ child relationship.

  1. DAVE CHAPPELLE: THE CLOSER

Mired in controversy and so polarizing the co-CEO of Netflix had to double down in his station’s commitment not to pull this 6th Chappelle Netflix special, The Closer, at its core is about freedom of speech. Chappelle jokes about COVID, #MeToo, The LGBTQ community and that was enough to get the protest started. Comedy should be an equal opportunity offender for the basis of good jokes is to have a butt of the jokes; being it the person who slipped on the banana or got the pie in the face. Somebody must be clowned and if we are all to live as one then we must all be clowned. Chappelle reminds us of this in his usually hilariously insightful approach.

  1. ON MY BLOCK

The Los Angeles neighborhood of Freeridge provided this coming-of-age comedy-drama with a fertile background for eye opening experiences. The group of teens who star in this acclaimed show are in their fourth and final season. Staring down an uncertain future they find themselves at the crossroad of high school’s senior year. What will life look like from now on separately and together?

  1. THE GUILTY

The Guilty can sarcastically be summed up as a sinister version of Frasier. The premise of this Antoine Fuqua crime drama is how an turned emergency call operator tries to save a caller’s life in

a city terrorized by fire. The acting and scripts are top notch as we witness how more than good intentions make up this taunt show that has audiences clamoring for more.

  1. THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE

There’s Someone Inside Your House is a horror film in the vein of I Know What You Did Last Summer. This slasher movie follows a teenager in her move from Hawaii to Nebraska to complete high school and how she experiences more than a culture shock. There’s a killer stalking her classmates and murdering them wearing masks in their own images. It’s creepy, spooky, scary and the latest in the Netflix terror library.

  1. TITANIC

Titanic was released on Netflix s ago and even though this box office champion was originally released in theaters in 1997, it sits comfortably on Netflix top 10 in 2021. The behemoth is the story oof a privileged girl and a stowaway boy sharing love on the doomed. With groundbreaking special effects and a final production budget of over $200 million, Titanic is the most expensive film ever made.

  1. MIDNIGHT MASS

Kudos to Mike Flanagan for this visionary and deeply personal mystery-thriller. The much- anticipated follow-up to Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House (2018) and The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) this series is about the citizens of the small, isolated fishing town of Crockett Island, where animosities are palatable. When a priest with a dark secret arrives the long-held friction within the village bubbles up to the surface in the most horrific fashions.

  1. THE FIVE JUANAS

This Columbian telenovela premiered on Netflix last week and is already in the top 10. The story of 5 women with the same first name and identical birthmarks linking them to a deadbeat dad has hogtied audiences to go along for the ride. The search for the missing dead is more than a fact-finding mission. It leads the quintet into a world of sex, lies and murder.

  1. COCOMELON

Cocomelon is The Terminator of Netflix children’s shows. It will not stop. Premiering in the Fall of 2020 this hit only fell out of the top 10 once and it looks like that won’t happen again anytime soon. The animated-nursery-rhymes-and-songs started out on YouTube and has now found a home on a grateful Netflix. Children of all walks love it.

This is the list as of right now. Netflix is constantly offer new surprises. So, don’t expect some of these selections to last long on this list. Meaning this is a good time to binge watch.
